Quality Assurance Jobs in Calgary

Quality assurance professionals function as the custodians of our procedures and interact with the engineering team and other departments to ensure projects are executed how they were intended. As with most jobs available with Vista, our quality assurance jobs are located in Calgary, Alberta, either at our head office or a nearby satellite office.

Quality Assurance Specialist

Main Duties and Competencies

The quality assurance specialist provides quality assurance support for all projects and interacts with a multi-disciplinary team. Duties will include:

  • Assisting in the maintenance of the quality management system (QMS)
  • Assisting in the coordination of QMS audits
  • Assisting in the creation of the audit program for project audits (audit plan, schedule, checklist, reports, etc.)
  • Ensuring systems and procedures are implemented in compliance with the requirements of the QMS
  • Monitoring and tracking project deficiencies
  • Maintaining the action request database and facilitating the closeout of action requests
  • Reviewing project deliverables to verify that client requirements are met
  • Assisting the quality assurance lead with any other department tasks
  • Performing other duties as requested

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certified ISO 9001 quality auditor
  • One (1) year of experience in a quality assurance or internal audit capacity
  • Familiar with ISO 9001
  • Familiarity with maintaining a QMS
  • Previous internal auditing experience
  • Strong coordination skills and proven ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment

Preferred

  • Post-secondary education in a technical field
  • Five (5) years’ experience in a quality assurance or internal audit capacity

Supplier Quality Specialist

Main Duties and Competencies:

The role of the supplier quality specialist (SQS) is to implement the Vista supplier quality control (SQC) program for all Vista-purchased equipment and material for projects. The SQC is the focal point for SQS activities during the procurement phase of the project and provides supplier quality guidance to the project management team. The SQS provides support and oversight of the performance of suppliers and third party inspection (TPI) agencies in the implementation of Vista’s SQC program. Duties will include:

  • Interacting with project teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and TPI agencies on a daily basis as required, providing support in the clarification of specifications, standard details and regulatory matters
  • Reviewing and marking up project documents (MRs, RFPs) and supplier quality submittals ensuring that technical requirements are adequately addressed
  • Coordinating and monitoring TPI agencies in accordance with the project’s approved technical document package
  • Preparing and issuing inspection assignment instructions as required for each assigned PO
  • Liaising with nominated inspection bodies and ensure that appropriately qualified inspectors are assigned in a timely manner for surveillance activities
  • Interacting and communicating with TPIs as required
  • Ensuring that the TPI is working only with approved documents
  • Reviewing the resumes of proposed TPIs to confirm qualifications
  • Attending project procurement meetings and kick-off meetings as required
  • Coordinating and chairing prefabrication meetings
  • Providing support and follow-up on the timely closure of supplier NCRs
  • Reviewing and verifying that all activities on the ITP have been completed and signed off
  • Ensuring proper follow-up on all areas of concern with the responsible party
  • Reviewing, approving and distributing inspection reports submitted by TPI
  • Review TPI agency invoices to ensure correct hours charged
  • Reporting on key performance indicators resulting from shop surveillance activities
  • Managing the flow of SQC records during the implementation of TPI inspection assignment packages and to project closeout
  • Providing input into the development of procedures, processes, and forms required for the implementation of Vista’s SQC program
  • Managing and maintaining organized SQC-related files and records to ensure they form part of the project closeout files
  • Ensuring the electronic database of all quality inspections and related activities is up to date (weekly updates)
  • Entering supplier performance data into the SQC supplier database
  • Assisting the quality assurance lead with departmental tasks (e.g., developing specific SQC procedures)
  • Performing other duties as requested

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in a quality control capacity
  • Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits
  • Manufacturing/shop fabrication experience
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision making skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail, with a strong work ethic
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and design code requirements including ASME Section V111, ASME B31.1 & B31.3, ABSA, CSA B51, API, CWB
  • Solid time-management skills
  • Dependability and reliability

Preferred

  • Five (5) years of experience in a quality control capacity
  • Bachelor’s degree or engineering technologist certification with a professional quality or auditing designation

Quality Assurance Lead

Main Duties and Competencies

The quality assurance lead provides quality assurance support and direction to projects and multi-disciplinary teams. Duties will include:

  • Maintaining the quality management system (QMS)
  • Managing the distribution of QMS documentation
  • Leading and coordinating QMS audits
  • Creating the audit program for project audits (audit plan, schedule, checklist, reports, etc.)
  • Ensuring systems and procedures are implemented in compliance with the requirements of the QMS
  • Monitoring and tracking project deficiencies
  • Maintaining the action request database and facilitating the closeout of action requests
  • Reviewing project deliverables to verify that they meet client requirements
  • Reporting quality KPIs to the management team
  • Supporting the discipline leads in the creation and issuance of department QMS documentation
  • Periodically reviewing departmental process, procedures and standards, identifying areas of improvement, deficiencies and taking the necessary corrective action to maintain quality
  • Planning, scheduling and managing responsibilities, objectives and project milestones for the team
  • Managing the team’s performance, including mentoring and coaching direct reports
  • Providing input to, and participating in, Human Resources activities, including recruitment, terminations, and discipline
  • Performing other duties as requested

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Certified ISO 9001 quality auditor
  • Seven (7) or more years of experience in quality assurance capacity and three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • Experience working with ISO 9001
  • Familiarity with maintaining a QMS
  • Previous internal auditing experience
  • Strong coordination skills and proven ability to provide leadership within a multi-disciplinary environment
