Main Duties and Competencies 

Reporting to the discipline lead, the engineer will participate in the design of different aspects of oil and gas projects from inception to completion. Duties will include:  

  • Interfacing with client representatives; 
  • Reviewing and maintaining project schedules, and tracking engineering tasks and deliverables in conjunction with project management 
  • Reviewing vendor or subcontractor quotations, drawings, and specifications for technical adequacy and conformance with project requirements 
  • Providing technical guidance to junior staff 
  • Preparing or assisting in the preparation of discipline inputs for cost estimates 
  • Applying advanced engineering techniques and analyses to complex engineering tasks 
  • Develop and review instrument indexes and instrument datasheets
  • Sizing control valves and flow meters
  • Perform Wake frequency calculations
  • Preform level calculations
  • Prepare MRQs and TBEs for transmitters, flow meters, control valves, on/off valves, analyzers and CEMS
  • Preparing engineering work packages and providing construction support 
  • Being able to meet safety requirements to attend site visits 
  • Input to P&ID and instrument selection 
  • Input to 3D model and review instrument location drawings
  • Prepare control narrative, Shutdown Key and alarm and set points list
  • Prepare and review control system architecture drawings
  • Prepare and review I/O assignment, wiring termination drawings, Fibre Optic block diagram/termination and cable schedule
  • Performing other duties as requested 

Requirements  

  •  At least 10 years of progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in heavy oil, gas processing, co-generation, pulp and paper industries  
  •  Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in engineering or applied science
  • Experience in designing PLC, DCS, Charm panels and Universal I/Os
  • Familiar with LOPA and SIL Analysis
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team including process, mechanical, civil-structural, electrical, and piping engineers and designers 
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of applicable codes and industry standards 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel 
  • Self-motivated and efficient in time management and organizational skills 
  • Registration as P.Eng. with APEGA
