As reported in a recent article from Reuters, Exxon Mobil and its Canadian affiliate, Imperial Oil, are planning to spend up to $25 billion (CAD) on a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in British Columbia.

According to January 8 filing with B.C.’s Environmental Assessment office, the project will initially produce 15 million tonnes of LNG per year from a plant located at Prince Rupert.

Imperial expects to receive all needed regulatory approvals for the project by 2017. Once regulatory approval is achieved, Exxon and Imperial will decide if the market conditions at that time support building the LNG facility.
